About Lok Abhiyan

Lok Abhiyan was founded by the former Union Minister Vijay Goel in New Delhi, in 1989, drawing inspiration and guidance from the late Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Vajpayee ji was although sceptical at that time opining that ‘it is easy to build institutions, but it is very difficult to run them’. Today, by the grace of Almighty, Lok Abhiyan has completed 34 years of active service in the social and cultural field.

Over the years, Lok Abhiyan successfully led an agitation banning single digit lotteries across the country. Some other achievements to its credit include agitation against soaring prices of electricity, formation of a Senior Citizens Federation, heritage development in Chandni Chowk area and creation of a ‘Toy Bank’ for poor children.

Lok Abhiyan has now started a countrywide campaign to resolve the problem of stray dog bites. The menace of stray dogs is increasing day by day in the country including the capital city Delhi. The general public often appears helpless against this menace. Whenever it comes to take some stringent action against stray dogs, the so-called animal lovers get angry. It is true that we should not be too harsh towards the stray animals. However, the safety of the general public is also equally important. We need to reach an amicable solution to this menace as early as possible.
